Providence has 224 more street trees shading our neighborhoods, thanks to Providence Neighborhood Planting Program, volunteers and community partners that came out to plant trees this spring.

Planning for fall planting is already underway! Become a volunteer or get a tree in your neighborhood

Thank you, Janet Caretti, for all your work in the North End!

How loud is the North End?

Providence Noise Project deploys THIRD sound monitor in Providence and it's in the North End. It’s a great way to get a better sense of the noise in our neighborhood. By understanding what’s happening, we can work together to keep our community healthy and enjoyable.

In Spring 2025, the Noise Project announced deployment of the first in a series of residential sound monitors — designed to ascertain both baseline noise levels and daily / weekly / seasonal noise trends around Providence — on the west side. In Fall 2025 we added a second monitor on the east side of the city, and then a third on the north end in Spring 2026, with more to come this year.

*** Final Week of Cart Delivery ***

- Message from Dept. of Sustainability -

Since March, we have been hard at work delivering new trash and recycling carts throughout Providence. This coming week (the week of May 18th), we will be wrapping up our scheduled deliveries. Then over the next few weeks, we'll be working to resolve any issues where residents still have their old carts, didn't receive new carts, or didn't receive the correct number of carts.

Here's what we need folks to know:

1.       If they still have old carts, they should leave them at the curb (full or empty) on their next scheduled collection day and we will have a removal crew sweeping the neighborhood to take any old carts they see off the curb

2.       If they didn’t get their new carts, the right number of carts, and/or their old carts weren’t removed, please direct them to fill out a missed delivery form or call 3-1-1 and the City will work to resolve the issue within 48 hours.

Learn more about this initiative and read our FAQs by visiting www.providenceri.gov/carts or reach out to 3-1-1 with any questions or concerns.

STREET SWEEPING Ward 4 North End

Street sweeping is conducted 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM, Sunday night through Friday morning to minimize the disruption to residents.

The City of Providence Street Sweeping Program is scheduled to sweep all sections of the City a minimum of four times during the course of the year. Some areas, particularly the business corridors will be swept more frequently.

Please keep in mind that the schedule is subject to change due to weather and staffing. Anyone with overnight parking permits will also be notified by email with the street sweeping schedule to make alternate parking arrangements to minimize interfering with street sweeping activities.

***** We did it! The community came together and successfully prevented the recycling plant from receiving a license, avoiding what could have been a significant blight for years to come. ******

Councilman Justin Roias submitted the Providence City Council Opposition letter to the Pawtucket City Council last night. Allied Recycle has threatened to appeal this ruling in the Supreme Court, and Councilman Roias will be working with the city attorneys to determine the next steps if they decide to proceed.

Our neighborhood’s strength truly shined through—thanks to the collective effort of residents from the North End and Pawtucket. The support from the Providence City Council, along with the emails, signatures, testimonies from last night, and our unity, was instrumental in securing this victory.
